Who we are

About H.D. Cotterell

What does a quartermaster actually do? He doesn’t buy goods, he doesn’t trade goods, no – he stores, inspects, maintains, protects, weighs and knows a wide variety of goods! The profession of quartermaster is a traditional one in the port industry – and this is also true in the expanding Port of Hamburg. And as a traditional company, H.D. Cotterell is always up to date!

From 1890 to the present day, H.D. Cotterell has continued to develop in an innovative and visionary manner. However, our range of services, i.e. our core competencies, have remained unchanged for over 130 years:

The other locations

Shed 48 A/B

At O’Swaldkai, we operate two warehouses, each with 10,000 m² of space for bulk cocoa beans.
Due to its immediate proximity to the Unikai terminal, this warehouse has a very good location advantage, allowing mega bulkers carrying raw cocoa to be unloaded at this site.

We have a total of two warehouses with a storage area of 20,000 m² at our Vollhöfener Weiden site. The warehouses are located in Altenwerder West. The location is ideal, as the warehouses are in the immediate vicinity of the largest terminals such as Eurogate, Burchardkai and Altenwerder. This allows us to avoid the Köhlbrandbrücke traffic bottleneck.
Here we can meet the highest demands in terms of storage capacity and handling speed. In addition to the hall space, the halls offer us a large open operational area.
We use one warehouse exclusively for storing bulk cocoa, while the other two warehouses are used to store cocoa beans in sacks. We have been operating this warehouse complex as a customs warehouse since 2011. All warehouses are also ICE – London approved.

Since early 2013, the logistics complex Am Genter Ufer, with a total area of 10,000 m² divided into four sections, has been our most modern location. Each section of this complex has six container ramps at its disposal. Like the warehouse in Vollhöfner Weiden, which is located in the immediate vicinity, we have good connections to the terminals for high handling speeds. This temperature-controlled logistics complex is primarily used to store cocoa products, dried fruit and latex.

In Brandenburgerstraße, we operate three warehouses, A, B and C, with a total area of approx. 11,000 m². Warehouse C is ICE London and CME Europe approved. We store cocoa beans in bulk/sacks and cocoa products in this warehouse complex.
